Lorenc+Yoo was hired to design canopies for a 15-year-old building designed by Philip Johnson in downtown Atlanta. The 191 tower is a 55-story corporate office building in downtown Atlanta, which houses the regional headquarters for Deloitte. The building appears as a Cathedral and, at the time, bore little or no identification of the tenants inside. The firm designed a series of canopies that allow for building identification as well as that of its major anchors. Designers studied the context of the building–its scale, color and classical design.

The Overton Park entrance monument sign features prismatic aluminum letters with a complementary logo. The logo resides atop at fabricated aluminum drum that acts as the composition’s focal point. Lorenc+Yoo Design implemented a custom modification of the Trajan typeface for the text, because its classic look calls to mind Roman monuments. The program includes custom cast letters and logo that are decorated with catalyst-hardened urethane paint. Sullivan Stone built the sign’s masonry, which is comprised of Alabama stone.

In addition to the lobby and parking signage, Lorenc+Yoo devised the canopy signage structure for TAP to fit the look and feel of bustling Midtown Atlanta. The design serves as an architectural accent to the building and includes a single, curved canopy comprised of three sections that appear to grow out of the building. Four columns anchor the canopy to the ground, and the TAP logo is centered above. A beer barrel shape contains the logo, which is lit internally and glows red with a subtle aura.
