Lorenc+Yoo created new wayfinding signage this original John Portman atrium space. The team developed a comprehensive wayfinding strategy to address confusing circulation through the two towers. Additionally, they simplified ballroom naming and numbering to improve visitors’ ease of use. The final result is new floor- and wall-mounted directories, overhead directionals, tower identity signs, and plaques. All the signs use aluminum painted to match the wall surfaces and/or stainless steel.

Lorenc+Yoo Design re-envisioned the entire wayfinding and signage system for Detroit’s Greektown Casino. The exterior signage reflects the original signs, some of which are still in place, but with a modern twist.  Whereas the old signs used individual bulbs (think Broadway marquis signs), the new ones use LEDs.  The overall feel of the signs is the same, and use the full 5-color palette of the Greektown logo in both paint and neon. The interior casino signs relied heavily on Greek theming, using patterns and colors found in the casino.  In the hotel however, the treatment is more refined, paying homage to the wonderful interior designed by the architecture firm Rossetti.  Prismatic gold letters mounted directly to dark wood walls lend an air of distinction.

Nestled in hills adjoining a lake, Fish In The Garden is a new development by Vanke, China’s largest real estate developer. It features retail, hotel, and residential spaces, including high-end villas. The designers developed overall project branding, wayfinding signage, entry features, and site sculpture to reflect an organic theme. The designers featured fish scales, organic shapes, and modern forms, integrating both Chinese and English text. Designers created an emblematic logo for the development and sheathed it and other pieces in bronze coloration to add a rustic character. Modern sign fittings subtly contrast with the worn appearance.

Lorenc+Yoo designed Brookfield’s exhibition to immediately indicate its high stature in the real estate industry. The design team showcased Brookfield’s projects via a series of unified video monitors at the front of the space accompanied by casual, comfortable seating for visitors to use while waiting for a meeting room to become available. Three separate meeting rooms for private conversations exist within the space, each expressing a consistent, minimalist, and high quality design vernacular. Overhead lights shine from a canopy above, providing the illusion of a ceiling within the tall convention hall.

Lorenc+Yoo worked with the casino’s interior designers to develop an integrated, dynamic identity system that features wood tones, natural shapes, and prairie-style flourishes. The character of Four Winds Casino’s signage is that of a wilderness lodge with all the amenities. Stone and wood characterizes the exterior signage, while illuminated signs inside provide the appearance of stained glass. The exterior and interior aspects of the system relate seamlessly, and provide light to the relatively dark interior lighting.

Lorenc+Yoo Design worked with Hnedak Bobo Group on the wayfinding signage program for a major, 346,000 SF expansion of the Kalispel Tribe’s Northern Quest Resort & Casino.

The lobby level Liquid bar features wide, high ceilings and an open, inviting space thanks to the use of wood, bronze, glass, stone and other natural materials. Outside, the team integrated contemporary materials with traditional Native American themes such as the lantern and earth for the designs for the parking deck signage, building signage, and landmark pieces. Following the aesthetic theme, the finishing touch on the landmark sign is a vertical light, rising like a beacon.

Potawatomi Casino’s recent $240 million renovation more than doubled its size, adding a six-story parking garage, a vehicular bridge and significantly more floor space. This required a new signage system to provide overall aesthetic improvements and wayfinding solutions. Working with Hnedak Bobo Group Architects, Lorenc+Yoo Design designed prairie-style lanterns to illuminate the main entrances and bridge to the parking deck, creating a clear path into the casino. Throughout the interior, LYD created a full series of intelligible wayfinding elements and logos for the casino’s restaurants and bars.

Lorenc+Yoo Design’s signage system for Christiana Mall encompasses three main parts: exterior wayfinding, exterior signage, and interior wayfinding pieces. The goal of the project was to unify each element of the system to provide mall-goers with a consistent branding presence from the time they drive into the parking lot.

LYD devised a number of unique central features for each court. These features give a personality to each area, adding new vertical expressions and ceiling treatments that come alive with night lighting.

The exterior wayfinding pieces include pieces that combine the traditional with the contemporary. Seated on a sandstone base, burgundy pillars support large text, bookended on one side by the distinct red logo of the mall. Guidance to the mall’s anchor stores sit beneath on horizontal pieces of steel that instinctively point the way.

Entitled “Rising Hand,” Lorenc+Yoo’s polished aluminum sculpture for Samsung rises 50 feet (15 meters) in the air and features a hand holding a Samsung mobile phone displaying videos, messages and other information on its LED screen. The sculpture’s powerful upward thrust is futuristic and dynamic, symbolizing the limitless possibilities in the future of communication.

Lorenc+Yoo Design employed high-quality materials, Chinese themes, and design restraint to create a sophisticated branding space for UPS to host 400 of its guests during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Lorenc+Yoo divided a 4,000 square foot ballroom within the Beijing Times Hotel into two dining rooms, a lounge, and a bar, providing guests with privacy and a familiar sense of place. Sleek furniture made of dark wood and metal interacts with subtle lighting to convey a modern Chinese feeling. Designers created internally-lit “moon gates” that serve as windows between spaces to reinforce UPS’s message of global opportunity and add Chinese flair. The dominant color is UPS’s trademark brown, accented with yellows, golds, and greens to show a blending of aesthetics from east and west. Every design choice helps Chinese customers answer UPS’s question: “What can brown do for you?”
